Information and restrictions on our hosting

We have FTP hosting facilities where restricted space is available, we do not charge for this service but we usually only host files for software distribution and mirrors for other sites. Apply for space by clicking join, let us know how much you want and what you want to use it for.

When you have chosen which directory you want to store files in and have uploaded them, you can access the FTP site anonymously through any of our domains. Choose from the following sites:

Please remember access will be monitored and also that the purpose of the extranet is to allow distribution of legitimate software.

All files accessible through the FTP server will be read only and will have anonymous access only.

We also have web space available where you can host your site, we only take on already built sites that we feel fit in within the joolsc.net community. Please apply by clicking join, if we like the look of your existing site you can move it to any of the above domains it will be accessible either as yoursite.domain.com or as a sub folder like www.domain.com/yoursite, both will be active. Access to your web space will also be through our web based interface. In certain cicumstances we can even host your existing domain name or help register one for you, contact us for more details.

Web hosting can include optional email addresses to match your site address, eg. yoursite@domain.com to match http://yoursite.domain.com. This is setup with a specific POP3 mailbox login and password supplied by us. Please contact us for more information.

We give a few free scripts with full instructions and help on how to use them to each site. Initially you only have access to form2mail but we will give you access to other options once you need them. If you have any scripts of your own these can be accomodated in most circumstances.

Full logs including agent and referrer fields are also available on request, there are many free log analysing tools available and we recommend Open Webscope. This will allow you to do detailed analysis on which parts of your site are the most visited and who is visiting them, how many people are visiting, where from, what they are downloading, which browsers and operating systems they are using, where they are being referred from and which of the search engines passes visitors to you.

All hosting is run from an Intel NT4 system. Here are details of our service from our server provider NEXTRA.

For example, Hewlett-Packard's '5 nines' initiative was specifically developed to address the needs of business. This initiative delivers 99.999% end-to-end server availability. Nextra Ensure enhances this offering by supporting our server solutions with 24 hours a day, 7 days a week technical support, daily incremental back-ups, full weekly system back-ups, real-time mirroring, and 4 Gigabit Local Area Network (LAN).

But all this would be incomplete without physical security. As computing and the Internet have become intrinsic to the way we do business, any loss of Internet or server availability now directly effects bottom line profitability. Housed in the former Bank of England bullion vaults, Nextra Ensure ServerBank is the most secure hosting facility in Europe. Nextra Ensure ServerBank boasts a 7-foot thick granite and steel loaded concrete outer chamber wall surrounded by a 2-foot bomb blast corridor followed by 7-foot thick granite and steel loaded concrete inner chamber wall. Sealed off with a 5-foot thick bombproof vault door, the actual server hosting area is hermetically sealed.

In terms of facility monitoring, there are over 60 motion detection cameras providing around the clock surveillance. Positioned at all entrance and exit points, high-resolution cameras with image matching technology enabling personal identification matching. All security cleared identification images are held for a period of three years, thus eliminating the risk of fraudulent access. In the event of an evacuation, all security systems can be controlled from a separate, secure remote location.
To ensure constant availability, the facility is fed by a 6.6kV ring, duplicated sub-stations, and redundant Un-interruptable Power Supply (UPS) units. Should the external power fail, there are three fully redundant autostart generators. In terms of connectivity, the facility is linked to Nextra Portland Tower Network Operations Centre (NOC), TeleCity, MaNAP and, LINX all using high-speed resilient fibre ring topologies as well as diverse geographic routing. To ensure no one point of failure, there are multiple access points to each of our global networks via three equidistant fibre breakout points to external, under-road ducts.
